Application of Recycled Concrete in Prefabricated Construction Elements
Abstract
The construction sector consumes large amounts of natural resources while generating significant volumes of construction and demolition waste, with concrete rubble being a major fraction. Recycled concrete, primarily through recycled concrete aggregate (RCA), offers a sustainable pathway to reduce the use of virgin aggregates and minimize landfill disposal. This paper reviews the use of recycled concrete in prefabricated elements, focusing on workability, mechanical performance, long-term deformation, and durability, as well as on production measures that ensure consistent quality under factory conditions. With enhanced quality control, recycled aggregate can be reliably used in prefabrication.
