Fire hazards during the processing and storage of oilseeds (sunflowers, soybeans, rapeseed) can be pronounced if adequate preventive protection is not applied. There is a high risk of self-heating and self-inflamed mass of oilseeds during storage in silos due to inadequate and unprofessional process management. Because self-ignition can result in smoldering fires that are extremely difficult to extinguish, understand and prevent this process is of great importance. The aim of this paper is to explain the influencing factors on the onset and intensity of initial processes. An experimental example in the laboratory determined the physicochemical parameters and minimum seed ignition temperatures in order to find the key causes of fire in the oil industry and to present solutions for reducing the risk of fire.
