STATIC FEA AND OSCILLATION ANALYSIS OF A WIND TURBINE TOWER

Abstract

Wind turbine towers are one of the most complex loaded towers that exist in construction. Taking into account the ever changing nature of wind speeds, which intesnly changes the load on the tower in terms of eccentric torque. The aim of this research is to find the results of the static FEM analysis in terms of stresses with which we can change the design of the wind turbine tower model. Also researching the oscillations of the tower and finding the natural frequencies we gain the knowledge of the angular velocity of the rotor which we have to restrict so that the tower doesn’t go into resonance. The paper presents the application of finite element method to find the stresses in a wind turbine tower using ABAQUS – software and the application of theory of oscillation to find the natural frequencies and maximum amplitudes of oscillation using Mathematica – software, 3D model of the wind turbine was made using Solidworks – software.
