The paper presents an experimental research of the influence of tool wear on the chip cross section and the spectrum of vibration signals. Microscopic analysis of the chip cross section clearly determined the shape of the resulting chip in correlation with the tool wear. During the machining process, vibrations were monitored on the tool holder, close to the cutting zone. Analysis of the generated vibration signals during machining confirmed that changes in the tool wear directly influence on the chip shape and the type of segmentation.
