Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the history of the development of various CO2 markets in the world, as well as the global policy framework for the functioning of the CO2 market.Given that the European Union's Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) is the largest and most developed market, the greatest attention in the paper is paid to the analysis of development perspectives and new mechanisms envisaged by the EU in its EU-Green deal plan, such as EU carbon border adjustment mechanism – CBAM. Also, the impact of EU mechanisms on the Republic of Serbia was analyzed.
