Abstract

In this paper some of the basic topologies of multi-level converters (MMC) are explained, and MMC mathematical model has been developed. Modeling methods as well as the simulation results in real-time using the Typhoon HIL emulator has been shown. Three examples of application of the model are given. The first simulation shows operation of the MMC converter connected to a strong grid. The second simulation shows operation under instantaneous change of power demand, while the third under a linear change of power demand.
