Abstract

Motor paralysis after a stroke has devastating consequences for patients, families and caregivers. Although therapies have improved in recent years, traditional rehabilitation still fails for patients with severe paralysis. The Brain Machine Interface has emerged as a promising tool for guiding motor rehabilitation intervention because it can be applied to patients without residual motion. This paper reviews the efficacy of BMI technology to facilitate neuroplasticity and motor recovery after a stroke.
