Abstract

In this paper, the theoretical foundations of renewable energy sources, their mathematical models, as well as the theoretical foundations of power flow and short circuits calculations within the microgrid, are presented. In the paper, the analysis of the regime of a real microgrid in normal operation as well as in the state with a short circuit was performed. All calculations are performed using a software developed in the Fortran programming language for the purposes of this paper. All results are verified through a hardware in the loop setup (Typhoon Hill). A detailed analysis of the complete microgrid state in grid-connected and islanded mode of operation is given, with special reference to the differences in fault currents.
