This paper describes the PI System software package for collecting, enriching, storing, and accessing reliable, real-time operations data. All parts of its architecture are explained, jointly representing a significant tool within the Industry 4.0 concept. The complete functionality of the system is practically presented in an example from the industry supported by a simulation of the data set of the process. The advantages and disadvantages of the system were discussed.
