The study examines the method of mental mapping as a possible approach to the research of people’s perception and experience of architectural spaces and urban landscape. In order to understand the relationship between man and his environment, mental maps of residents and visitors of Sremski Karlovci were recorded and analyzed. Through examining the representation of cityscape on the respondent’s mental maps, the way they perceived the city was investigated and the identification, use and elvaluation of spaces that surround them were interpreted.
