Abstract

This paper analyzes the influence of winding design on the harmonic composition of the induced voltage in a hydrogenerator. The construction of the hydrogenerator is presented in detail, along with the fundamental concepts related to windings, magnetomotive force (MMF), and electromotive force (EMF). The finite element method  is applied to analyze magnetic phenomena in the machine, as well as the occurrence and indicators of higher harmonics. A case study was conducted on a machine exhibiting undesired harmonic components in its voltage spectrum. A correction of the stator winding pitch was proposed, which improved the machine’s harmonic response. The effectiveness of the proposed modification was verified through simulation results.
