Abstract

This paper presents an algorithm for determining the optimal locations and sizes of capacitor banks in medium-voltage distribution networks. The objective function is defined as the minimization of total costs, including investment costs of capacitor banks and electrical energy loss costs. A simulated annealing-based algorithm is proposed for solving this problem. The algorithm is verified on a distribution network consisting of 100 buses.
