Abstract

This paper presents an analysis and comparative evaluation of the performance of the Zephyr and FreeRTOS operating systems on a RISC-V software processor implemented on a Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA platform. By using specifically designed software algorithms, the execution times of critical operating system parts were measured in processor cycles and subsequently compared. The obtained results were analyzed and discussed in relation to the expected theoretical values.
