Abstract

The subject of this paper was an orifice for measurement of fluid flow rate. The influence of a local loss - elbow on pressure drop, pressure loss, fluid power loss, discharge coefficient and pressure recovery for single-hole and multi-hole orifices was analyzed. The stream of a dry air through both types of orifice was considered. Analysis was done using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The numerical simulations were done in commercial software package STAR CCM+. The aim of this work was to determine if different positions of elbow behind the orifice have the influence on the mentioned fluid parameters. It was concluded that elbow doesn't have the influence on the pressure drop, discharge coefficient and pressure recovery. However, the elbow does have the influence on the pressure loss and fluid power loss for the both types of orifice.
