NEEDS ANALYSIS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A FRUIT AND VEGETABLE WAREHOUSES IN REPUBLIC OF SERBIA

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the need for additional scaling capacities for fruits and vegetables in Serbia. The paper first presents the theoretical basics of the concept of logistics centers, and then more detailed distribution centers for fruits and vegetables. After that, the fruit and vegetable production calculation in Serbia was started as the basic parameter for calculating the basic problem, the necessary storage capacity for fruits and vegetables. The detailed analysis of the storage conditions and the time of ripening is done for 5 types of fruits (apples, plums, grapes, sour cherries and raspberry) and 5 types of vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, melons and watermelons, cabbage and kale and peppers) as these species account for more than 80% production of fruits and vegetables. On the basis of imports and production in July, the month in which all 10 fruits and vegetables were seasoned, the basic assumption about the needs for storage capacities was obtained. By comparison with available data on existing capacities, three variants have been obtained showing the differences between the required and existing capacities.
