The paper deals with the research of the role of innovation in agriculture in the Republic of Serbia and European Union. A strategic approach has been described for agriculture in the leading European Union countries, which emphasize research and innovation as a main solution to the sustainable development of agriculture. The population is growing quickly, and accordingly, need for food. The solution is offered in innovation and their ongoing implementation. A smart way of implementing innovations is able to make relative balance, as well as numerous advantages. By exploring the innovative potential of the agricultural company, we are able to see place for improvement. As proposal solution, in the work will be presented Lean methodology, whose implementation raises awareness in the company and opens the door to innovations, hence the increase of the innovative potential of the enterprise.
