Abstract

The research issue takes place in the context of constant changes in all the fields of contemporary life. It examines the capitalist social system within which the consumer mentality is created, as well as the means such as mass media, by which the system influences the members of society. Emphasis is placed on the impact of such circumstances on the design and quality of public spaces. As a potential solution to the issues of contemporary public spaces, this paper presents an urban design approach that seeks to highlight the importance of diverse, high quality, content-based public spaces that are authentic and non-commercial.
