Simulating LIDAR Design Tradeoffs for Traffic Analytics Before Sensor Production
Abstract
This paper presents the metodology for a simulation and analysis of different LiDAR sensor's configurations in the context of traffic analytics. The starting point is the processing of real point clouds, their transformation in spherical coordinate system and the extraction of regions of interest corresponding to the detected vehicles. Through the simulation of various sensor parameters, their impact on the quantity and quality of the retained data was analyzed. The obtained results show how changes in sensor configuration affect the performance of traffic analytics before the device is manufactured.
